This is a short video of how North Korea came to be and is what is today.

History

The only separation between North and South is a two and a half mile long demilitarized zone, the most heavily fortified border in the world.

Korea has always fought for its own independence throughout a very long history. When Korea finally gained its independence from a thirty-six year long colonization of Japan, Korea separated into two by having two different leaders set by the soviet forces and the U.S. The soviet forces put Kim Il Sung as the first leader of the Northern half of the peninsula while the U.S. put Syngman Rhee as the leader of the Southern half. This puts a divide in the country called the 38th parallel. This eventually starts the Korean War between the Republic of Korea (South) and the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea (North) . With South Korea's victory with the help of the U.S. military, the 38th parallel is no longer the border between South and North Korea. Today, the border is the DMZ, which is considered to be the most heavily fortified border in the world.

After 65 years...

The two leaders of North and South Korea have taken a step toward peace.
